November 4: Right to Read Virtual Forum

The Right to Read legislation establishes state-level oversight of implementation through School District Audits, inclusion of implementing evidence-based literacy instruction as a component of their three-year plans, and mandatory data reporting collected by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). In order to be a long-term success in each LEA, these implementation plans will require the state to offer thoughtful coordination, financial support, and significant opportunities for professional development. This conversation will cover how a comprehensive reading plan should look, how districts and DESE can partner effectively, and which professional development opportunities for educators have been most valuable across the country. Featuring:

  • Mary Tamer, Founder & Executive Director, MassPotential, Moderator

  • Dr. Melissa Hickey, CT State Dept of Ed Reading Center Director

  • Darci Burns - Hill for Literacy

  • Kimmy Tremlett, MA Manager, Policy and Programs, Teach Plus

  • Jillian Geraghty, Literacy Instruction Facilitator & Teach Plus Senior Policy Fellow

  • Dr. Karen L. Spaulding: Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning, PreK-8, Brockton Public Schools
