In Massachusetts, only 4 in 10 third graders are reading proficiently. Mass Reads is working to ensure every student learns to read on grade level across the Commonwealth.
About the
Mass Reads Coalition
As a powerful statewide coalition of educators, parents, literacy experts, and policy advocates, Mass Reads is driving the movement to ensure every child in Massachusetts reads on grade level. We aren't just supporting legislation - we are championing the Right to Read. By fighting for high-quality, evidence-based curricula, robust teacher training, and proactive student screenings, we are equipping school districts to dismantle literacy gaps and secure the lifelong success of our elementary students.
What is the Right to Read Act?
Every Massachusetts student needs a basic level of literacy for success in life. The Massachusetts Right to Read Act — co-sponsored by Sen. Sal DiDomenico, Rep. Danillo Sena and Rep. Simon Cataldo — is a comprehensive plan to improve literacy instruction and support all students and teachers.
